Support Worker to Assist with Daily Activities and Social & Community Participation
What does a support worker do?
A support worker can assist you with social and community participation and daily activities. What they support you with can differ based on your individual circumstances, needs and goals. Our team will work with you to understand your needs. Social and community participation may include things such as going shopping, transport and support to go to appointments, seeing friends, watching waves hit the sand, a night out, visiting your favourite place, walking around your neighbourhood or meeting up with friends. Daily activities can include self-care during the day or evening, assistance with personal grooming and hygiene, feeding, daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, hobbies and special interests.
Although this is not an exhaustive list, we have provided some examples below with brief descriptions to give you some idea.
Personal grooming and hygiene: Assist with showering, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting, bladder and bowel management, dressing.
Eating and drinking: Assist with food preparation and meals, support to feed.
Overnight sleepover support: Assist with situations that require overnight care.
High intensity self care: Assist in situations that require highly specialised care services.
Daily activities: Assist with mobilising in and out of bed or around the home, doing bed, maintaining living spaces.
Hobbies & special interests: Assist with the things you enjoy doing.
Transportation: Assist getting to and from social/community events or appointments.
Locate, identify and access events: Assist finding events, activities and groups that are relevant and align with your interests and supporting you to access these. We work with out participants to empower and encourage them to enjoy social and community participation instead of grappling with layers of barriers. Ultimately, our participants can make and maintain a presence in their local communities in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
Shopping: Assist with laborious tasks such as shopping to increase sense of self and independence.
Outings: Assist with getting out of the home whether it be to go for a walk, coffee, visit friends or a place of interest.

We can support our NDIS participants to access the services needed for all daily activities and social and community participation in a persinalised and sensitive way. We can help participants advocate for their needs and ensure participants get access to the funding required to be able to have the best opportunity to work toward and achieve goals.
